USM College of Nursing begins moving into new home

Faculty and staff in the College of Nursing at The University of Southern Mississippi have started moving into their new home on the western edge of the Hattiesburg campus.

The university, in a news release Tuesday, said classes are scheduled to begin in the new facility — Asbury Hall — for the 2017 spring semester.

Groundbreaking on the $31 million structure was held in September 2014. The new building increases the square footage dedicated to the College of Nursing by 135 percent.

A $4 million commitment from the Asbury Foundation of Hattiesburg led to the naming of Asbury Hall, which will allow for an increase in nursing enrollment from the current 550 students to more than 800.
