The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reported Friday that embezzlement charges against Harvey Clements and his wife, Sandy Clements, were dismissed in May.
The couple agreed to pay the Itawamba County Development Council $29,948, plus $1,400 in legal fees.
Harvey Clements had been the group’s executive director, while Sandy Clements was an administrative assistant. Both were indicted in 2015 on felony embezzlement charges alleging they stole money in late 2014.
As part of the settlement, Harvey Clements signed a statement acknowledging responsibility for “my unknowing violations” of council rules and procedures.
Itawamba County hired Three Rivers Planning and Development District to handle economic development after Harvey Clements left.
