Brian Pearson of Simon Property Group has been named mall manager at Northpark Mall in Ridgeland.

As mall manager, Pearson will manage all day-to-day operations, maintenance and the budget, as well as tenant and community relations. Additionally, he will be responsible for the security and marketing of the center.

    Northpark Mall has gone from a once great venue a couple of years ago to a flat, dull and sinking ship. I remember when you could drive off countyline and would be greeted by nice landscaping and flowers, that are now overgrown islands with no flowers and the areas that do have flowers are so sparse it makes you laugh. My home owners association has better landscaping than the mall LOL. The theater used to have trash everywhere and now its landscaping looks great, better than the mall. Thumbs up to the movie theater. Northpark used to have local companies that did the interior & exterior and now a National Company with big fancy trucks and nice green lettering? How is management spending the money? Come on you have to have curb appeal, put a little mulch out for the sake of what plants are left… It used to be managed by staff that took ownership of the interior and exterior. I know the former General Manager & Operations Manager have advanced to more accomplished positions within the company or outside the company but come on… Simon has let the new folks run it in the ground. It was a breath of fresh air to arrive early to walk and see the Operations Manager out there smiling and greeting everyone. He was very personable and stopped to assist with any need, on more than one occasion I watched him help a lost child or just walk around and assist janitorial during busy times. Other times the Mall Manager was right there with him, just as nice and cordial. Between the two they kept the mall looking pristine and didn’t allow the nonsense that is present now. What once was an upscale interior is now bland, interior plants have been removed, stores closed (7-8 last count); empty carts are all over the mall? Crazy jumping thing on the second level, how would you like to pay rent for a location and have to look out at that every day. There are games and vending machines placed in any nook and corner where there is an outlet? Then the stores are more urban and mom & pop than ever. You can’t tell me a little revenue from a new store is not worth more than it sitting empty? Why not take a vacant space and donate it to one of the civic groups in Ridgeland or a nonprofit group, it would beat the heck out of a stupid looking wall or black curtains adorning the windows for months on end. I’m sure if you sat in on a meeting with the powers to be at the mall, it would be “well Renaissance this or Dogwood that and we just can’t get anybody blah, blah, blah” this is affecting our retention of current stores or the recruitment of new stores. Come on Simon this isn’t Dallas or one of your more affluent areas, times are tough. loosen up or you will quickly dried up what was once a symbol of excellence when it opened in 1984. Of course real time is when Simon bleeds the current tenants until they have no more and then they will sell off and wash their hands of the place. Mark it down when you lose the first anchor store and based off the number of cars in the parking lots that may be sooner than later, Mayor McGee can get ready he may have the next “Ridgeland Medical Mall” in the near future….
