FEMA grant repays MEMA

PEARL — A $1.55-million federal grant has been approved to reimburse the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) for emergency service costs incurred after Hurricane Katrina. The decision was announced in a joint release from Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) and Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.).

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in consultation with congressional appropriations committees, has given final approval to MEMA’s application to be compensated for more than $1.55 million in costs associated with hazardous materials teams and fuel services provided by the State of Florida in the aftermath of Katrina.

FEMA is providing this award to MEMA through its Public Assistance/Emergency Protective Measures grant program.
