JACKSON — Southern District Public Service Commissioner Leonard Bentz announced that the first phase of the official hearings that clarify the need for Mississippi Power’s proposed integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power plant in Kemper County will continue through this week. The public will have an opportunity to voice ideas, thoughts and concerns Friday.

“We are evaluating the present and future electricity needs of Mississippians and what it will take for Mississippi Power to be able to provide reasonable, affordable and reliable energy,” Bentz said. “We are progressing in the hearing and look forward to hearing from consumers in the public forum on Friday.”

Anyone who wishes to participate and testify, as a public witness, will be allowed to comment on the proposed plant Friday. The hearing will begin at 9 a.m. in the Mississippi Public Service Commission Hearing Room in the Woolfolk State Office Building in Jackson.

Those unable to attend can submit comments in writing by letter or e-mail via www.psc.state.ms.us.
