WCU receives large donation for new college

HATTIESBURG — By naming William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCU-COM) in his trust, Joel McKenzie of Foxworth has established one of the largest gifts by an individual in the history of WCU

McKenzie and his mother, Lois McKenzie of Foxworth, have endowed a professorship and scholarship in the WCU-COM. The trust will initially endow The Joel W. and Lois S. McKenzie Endowed Scholarship Fund and The Lois S. McKenzie Endowed Professorship with assets in excess of $1 million.

“It is our honor to name William Carey University in the Joel W. McKenzie Trust,” said Joel McKenzie. “The legacy we’d like to leave is that our names can live on through the students of osteopathic medicine and in the lives of those they save in the future.”

McKenzie retired after 25 years from Pennzoil Company of Lafayette, La.

“We are so indebted to the McKenzies for their caring hearts expressed by this gift,” said Dr. Tommy King, president of WCU. “Planned giving allows all of us to leave a legacy, large or small, which can live on forever.”
