U.S. unemployment claims dip

In the week ending Oct. 24, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims in the U.S. was 530,000, a decrease of 1,000 from the previous week’s unrevised figure. The four-week moving average was 526,250, a decrease of 6,000 from the previous week’s unrevised average.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 4.4 percent for the week ending Oct. 17, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week’s unrevised rate.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Oct. 17 was 5.797 million, a decrease of 148,000 from the preceding week’s revised level. The four-week moving average was approximately 5.96 million, a decrease of 78,750 from the preceding week’s revised average.
