Nunnelee to run for Congress

The Associated Press is reporting today that Republican state Sen. Alan Nunnelee of Tupelo has filed qualifying papers to run for Congress in Mississippi’s First District.
Nunnelee, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, has traveled and raised money throughout the district during the past year. He qualified Tuesday for the election.
The post is currently held by U.S. Rep. Travis W. Childers, D-Miss.
Candidates for congressional office must qualify by March 1. The primary is scheduled for June. 1.
