HERNANDO — A former Southaven city employee has pleaded guilty to charges of embezzlement.

Terry Swatsenberg, who resigned as Southaven municipal court clerk last spring amid an investigation into missing money from the department she supervised, entered the plea Jan. 26 in DeSoto County Circuit Court.

She will be sentenced April 6.

Prosecutors have alleged that she embezzled more than $100,000 during a more than one-and-a-half year period while handling court fines, among other duties, for the city.

Prosecutors say they recommend she receive a 30-month jail sentence and restitution.
