Hood rules MGCCC-USA deal is legal

GAUTIER — The state attorney general has ruled an agreement between a Mississippi community college and an Alabama university is legal, including a stipulation the rent would be waived for the first year.
The ruling came Monday, three days after the University of South Alabama backed out of a deal to rent part of a building in Jackson County from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
But MGCCC president Dr.Willis Lott said the opinion still is useful to the community college.
Lott approached USA about renting the building, and officials there agreed, a decision which encountered criticism from many in state government and higher education.
