Supervisor faces another embezzlement charge

CARROLLTON — Prosecutors say they will go to trial on the remaining count of embezzlement pending against the president of the Carroll County Board of Supervisors.

Jan Schaefer, a spokeswoman for the Attorney General’s Office, tells the Greenwood Commonwealth that the state will seek a court date for the second count of embezzlement against Lloyd “Honey” Ashmore.

Circuit Judge Circuit Judge Billy Bridges this past week threw out one embezzlement court against Ashmore after hearing testimony from two prosecution witnesses. The charge involved the alleged use of county labor, materials and equipment to build a bridge on the property of Ed Meek in 2003.

The remaining count involved an allegation that Ashmore had a $3,200 bridge built on his own property in 2006.
