BATON ROUGE, La. — The LSU AgCenter has a new way for farmers and people in the food business to market products.

Chancellor Bill Richardson says Louisiana’s Market Maker website is taking registrations now, and should be searchable by Aug. 15.

Arkansas and Mississippi are among 14 states already participating in the website created by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Louisiana, Florida and Pennsylvania have sites in progress.

Sellers get free accounts.

Dwight Landreneau, LSU AgCenter associate vice chancellor, says businesses must be agriculture-related — for instance, agritourism would qualify.

Buyers don’t need accounts. They can search for food-related business from roadside stands to meat processors and even dinner theaters, and then map them.
