Supervisors mulling prisoner healthcare proposal
NATCHEZ — Adams County supervisors are studying a request from Sheriff Chuck Mayfield to sign a contract with a Tennessee company to provided medical care for inmates.
The Natchez Democrat reports that Mayfield told supervisors this week that his office currently contracts with a local nurse practitioner directly at a cost of about $50,000 annually.
Mayfield says for $70,000 the county could sign up with Southern Health Partners of Chattanooga, Tenn., which could provide more hours of care and cover the costs of medicine.
Mayfield says the county also may get some relief in the area of inmate health liability.
Board of Supervisors president Darryl Grennell says the board attorney will look over the proposed contract.
