City to vote on proposed tourism tax
SOUTHAVEN — A 1 percent tourism tax is on the ballot Tuesday in Southaven.
The Commercial Appeal reports the money generated from the tax on restaurant bills is expected to pay for the proposed $35 million parks expansion and improvement plan.
The city received clearance last week from the U.S. Justice Department to hold the special election. Southaven Mayor Greg Davis says the request was a formality.
Davis says if residents approve the proposed tax, a park committee will be established to hear concerns and suggestions about parks projects.
