MERIDIAN — Mississippi State University has asked the state College Board to approve a nursing program for its Meridian campus.
MSU president Mark Keenum tells WTOK-TV in Meridian that the program would offer a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Keenum says the nursing program will be located in the Kress Building in downtown Meridian. The building, donated to MSU by the city, is near the Newberry Building, which is being renovated to house MSU Meridian’s business school.
Keenum says the proposal will be presented to the College Board in March. He hopes to get the program in place by 2013.
Keenum says the initial goal is to enroll 45 students annually.

I will be appreciated if they do build the nursing school for higher learning in downtown Meridian. I graduated from Meridian Community College in May 13, 2011. Now, I am currently attending the University of West Alabama for the Nursing Program. These two colleges are closest colleges from where I live, and Mississippi State University Meridian Campus is the closest as well. It is about time someone speaks about putting a nursing school for higher learning.
