MEMA gives storm damage update, destruction widespread

ACROSS MISSISSIPPI — The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has received updated damage reports from 24 counties for the severe weather system that moved through the state April 4.

The reports from the counties are as follows:

• Adams: Two homes with minor damage.

• Claiborne: Several roads closed due to debris and damage.

• Copiah: One fatality due to a car accident, trees and power lines down.

• DeSoto: A few buildings and homes damaged, flooding and debris on roads.

• Forrest: At least one home and church damaged.

• Greene: Some homes and farm buildings damaged, trees down.

• Grenada: Three injuries due to motor vehicle accidents.

• Harrison: Four businesses damaged.

• Jackson: Two homes affected and two agriculture buildings with major damage.

• Jefferson Davis: Trees down throughout the county.

• Jones: Several homes damaged, debris and damage to some local roads.

• Lawrence: Several homes damaged, farm buildings damaged, trees down.

• Lee: Trees and power lines down.

• Lincoln: Several homes damaged, trees and power lines down throughout the county.

• Lowndes: Some apartments flooded due to heavy rain, trees down and at least one home damaged. American Red Cross shelter opened to house families displaced by flooding.

• Marshall: One farm building destroyed.

• Pearl River: One home with major damage and three homes and one mobile home affected.

• Quitman: A few homes and farm buildings damaged.

• Simpson: Three homes and one mobile home destroyed, six homes with major damage, 20 homes and one mobile home with minor damage, 25 homes and 12 mobile homes affected and one business with minor damage.

• Tate: Two homes with minor damage.

• Tunica: One building damaged and trees down.

• Union: A few homes and agricultural buildings damaged and trees down.

• Warren: Trees and power lines down, at least one home damaged.

• Yazoo: Trees and power lines down.

Additional damage assessments are underway. MEMA will continue to provide additional reports as information becomes available.
