Crossgates gets new advisors

Crossgates River Oaks Hospital would like to introduce several individuals who will be joining the hospital’s Advisory Board year for 2011. Barry L. Whites, M.D., was appointed to staff at Crossgates River Oaks July 7, 1994, and has been heavily involved with the hospital and medical staff since then. A native of Louisville, Whites earned his bachelor of science degree from Delta State University, where he was on the Dean’s List, a Presidential Scholar and graduated cum laude. Following his undergraduate degree, Whites attended the University of Mississippi Medical Center and completed his medical degree. He also completed an internship in Straight Medicine, a residency in medicine and a fellowship specializing in pulmonary disease from the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Whites is a member of numerous organizations including the American College of Chest Physicians, American Heart Association, American Thoracic Society and many others. He is the current vice chief of staff at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital, chairman of the Bylaws Committee, medical director of the ICU and pulmonary medicine as well as the medical director of the Sleep Lab. Whites is board certified in internal medicine as well as board certified in pulmonary medicine.

Benny L. Hubbard, LUTCF, began his career in 1992 after graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi. Hubbard is president and owner of Hubbard Financial Solutions based in Flowood, and has over 10 years in insurance and financial planning. He has also served over 20 years in the U.S. Army Reserves. He is currently sergeant major in the 412th Engineer Command located in Vicksburg.

Hubbard is a past president of the Rankin County Chamber of Commerce and past president of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Planners-Jackson Chapter. He serves on two national boards for NAIFA and The Committee on Associations. He also serves on the Young Agent Task Force.

He is also a charter member of the Flowood Rotary Club. He is married to Kimberly Patterson Hubbard of Brandon and they have three children, B.J., Kelsey and Kayla Hubbard.

Mayor Tim Coulter, a 37-year resident of Brandon, is joining the board of directors. He obtained his bachelor of science from Mississippi College.

He currently lives in Brandon with his wife, Laurie, and two sons, Jake and Josh.

Amanda Fontaine will also be joining the board of directors. A resident of Brandon, she is currently the executive director for the Mississippi Firefighters Memorial Burn Association Inc., which she has held the since 2003. Previous to becoming the executive director, she worked across various aspects of the healthcare industry, with experience as the director of physician network development at the Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville.

Fontaine is a graduate of Delta State University, where she earned her bachelor of business administration followed by earning her MBA.

She has received numerous awards and recognition for various groups and organizations she has been active in for many years, including the current Rankin County Rotary Club President, member of the National Association of Professional Women, former president of the American Advertising Federation of Jackson and also serves on the Delta State University Alumni Association board of directors as well as many other awards and organizations.

William Lawrence, D.O., a resident of Flowood, was appointed to the staff at Crossgates in July 2006. He is currently serving as chief of surgery at Crossgates. After graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi with a bachelor of science, Lawrence continued his education at the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Mo., where he earned his doctor of osteopathy graduating summa cum laude. Lawrence then went on to complete a rotating internship at the Medical Center of Independence in Independence, Mo. Following his completion of the rotating residency, Lawrence completed his orthopedic surgery residency, also at the Medical Center of Independence.

Lawrence is a member of a number of organizations including the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics, the Mississippi Medical Association, Central Mississippi Medical Society and the American Osteopathic Association. He is the winner of numerous awards including Psi Sigma Alpha-honor society, the Warren G. Tuttle Pharmacology Award and also a recipient of the Versalius Award.

Crossgates’ current Advisory Board also includes: John J. Cook, M.D.; Noel Daniels; Russell Espiritu, Mayor of Puckett; Jimmy Foster; William F. Krooss II, M.D.; Tammy Phillips; Edward E. Rigdon, M.D.; Lee Yancey, state senator; J. Allen Tyra, CEO, Crossgates; and, Joe Pinion, Health Management Associates Inc., Division 4 president.
