Cadence adds Whittington, Hemphill
Mark Abernathy, Cadence Bank CEO and president, recently announced that Jeff H. Whittington has been appointed as the bank’s enterprise risk manager. A native of native of Montgomery, Ala., Whittington is a graduate of Auburn University at Montgomery. He also received his graduate degree in banking from the LSU School of Banking of the South.
In 1985, Whittington began his career with First Alabama Bank in Montgomery in teller operations, credit analysis, loan review and retail lending. He later joined Compass Bank in Auburn, Ala., in its commercial lending area then moved to its private banking sector. In 1995, he joined First National Bank of Opelika, Ala., where he progressed to senior credit officer. Whittington joined the Cadence Banking team in 2000 and was named president of the Tuscaloosa, Ala., branch offices. In 2006, he accepted the position as state executive for Mississippi and Georgia where he was responsible for managing branch operations.
During his time in Tuscaloosa, he was involved in many charitable organizations and was an executive committee member and Treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama. He is a volunteer for the Red Cross and the United Way and coaches YMCA Basketball in New Hope.
Whittington and his wife, Dawn, have three children, Jordan, Caroline and Anna. They currently reside in New Hope
Also, Abernathy announced that Teresa Hemphill has joined Cadence Bank as executive vice president and chief credit officer. Hemphill began her career with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency as a bank examiner in 1974 and was commissioned as a national bank examiner in 1979. She joined Trustmark National Bank in Jackson in 1982. Prior to joining Cadence Bank, Hemphill served as senior vice president and senior credit officer for Trustmark.
Hemphill, a native of Brandon, received her bachelor of science at University of Houston at Clear Lake City. She received a graduate degree in banking from LSU School of Banking of the South.
She currently serves as a volunteer and credit facilitator for Habitat for Humanity and volunteers for various other charitable organizations. She has also served as president for The Mississippi Girl Choir.
She currently resides in Starkville with her husband, Ryland. They have two children, Kathryn H. Bentley and Harris Hemphill.
