Butler Snow forms team

Martin Willoughby, Sam Owen and Lance Gurley have joined Matt Thornton to form the new Executive Team at Butler Snow Advisory Services, LLC. Willoughby is joining Butler Snow Advisory as executive vice president and COO. Willoughby has owned and operated successful businesses, strategically advised companies as in-house counsel and effectively represented clients ranging from individuals to publicly traded entities. He also served as general counsel for various well-known computer software, food services, electric grid technology and emerging pharmaceutical companies. HE is a regularly featured business writer in the Mississippi Business Journal, Pointe Innovation and the Mississippi Medical News. Willoughby is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association and was named one of the Top 10 Leaders in the Law by the Mississippi Business Journal. He graduated summa cum laude from Mississippi College where he earned his juris doctorate and magna cum laude from Millsaps College where he earned his bachelor of arts degree.
Owen will serve as a senior advisor and has over 40 years of experience in acquiring, managing and operating global healthcare organizations. Owen has provided strategic advisory services to healthcare organizations of all sizes, from start-ups and emerging growth, to those later in the business life cycle. He was an owner of Cumberland Health Systems Inc. and served as president and CEO. In addition, he served as chairman and chief reconstructing officer of Senior Health Systems Inc. Owen started his career running and managing large hospitals under Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), serving as president of HCA Physician Services Company as well as senior vice president of development, where he led all merger and acquisition activities. He has served as a director of several corporations, both private and public. Owen received his bachelor of business administration from the University of Mississippi and a master of hospital administration from Washington University in St. Louis.
Gurley will serve as a senior vice president and has an investment banking background that has included advising mid-market companies on strategic merger and acquisition initiatives, complex restructurings, divestitures and private placements of debt and equity securities. Additionally, he has significant experience advising financial sponsors in distressed situations, advising on both in and out-of-court restructurings. He currently holds FINRA series 7, 22, 24, 63 and 79 licenses, and is a licensed general securities principal. Gurley graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Mississippi.
