JACKSON — A federal appeals court has upheld the bank fraud conviction of former Madison County real estate investor Earline Y. Rawls.
Rawls was convicted last year in federal court in Jackson of three counts of bank fraud and one count of conspiracy. She was sentenced to 35 months in federal prison, five years on supervised release and ordered pay over $400,000 in restitution.
The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals yesterday rejected Rawls’ claim the prosecutors didn’t prove she committed a crime.
Prosecutors say Rawls devised a scheme involving the purchase of four residential properties in Madison and Hinds counties. They say Rawls provided false information to lenders to secure loan approvals.
