MBJ cover story on Dec. 5, by Clay Chandler, was breaking news for Mississippi on the investigation into the CEO of the non-profit agency.
After a wrongful termination lawsuit filed against the Delta Health Alliance settled this summer, the U.S. Attorney in Northern Mississippi started an investigation of the nonprofit’s CEO.
A grand jury has subpoenaed records related to the lawsuit to determine if Dr. Karen Fox inappropriately used DHA funds, which come almost exclusively from federal sources, for personal expenses. DHA’s board of directors approved each of the expenses in question about three months after the lawsuit settled. Terms of the settlement were confidential.
Fox’s attorney, Mike Watts of Oxford, told the Mississippi Business Journal in late November he’s confident Fox will be cleared of any wrongdoing. He said he had been given no indication how long the government’s investigation would last.
