As a retired wildlife biologist and Federal Wildlife Refuge Manager I am very much opposed to this legislation. To endanger our healthy native wildlife populations in order to enable a handful of deer farmers to make big money is to descend a dangerous, slippery slope. We already have a major problem from wild hogs due to the unscrupulous activities of thos who release them around the state to increase their hog hunting opportunity, to the great detriment of native wildlife. This state produces some of the best deer in the country including at least one world record. To put at risk a resource that benefits our citizens of Mississippi, hunters and non-hunters, for the profit of a small special interest group is unconscionable. Our legislature should show courage and emphatically vote this one down.
