Supervisors approve update to county’s hazard-mitigation plan

WIGGINS — The Stone County Board of Supervisors has approved an update of the county’s hazard-mitigation plan.
Emergency management director Raven James tells The Sun Herald FEMA requires the county to have the updated five-year plan in order to receive funding in the case of a natural disaster or emergency.
James says projects outlined in the new plan include improving public warning systems, roads prone to flooding and shelters on the east and west sides of the county.
Supervisors Dale Bond and Lance Pearson served on the hazard-mitigation committee to provide input as to what projects would need funding if there were a natural disaster. The plan was approved by Wiggins city officials yesterday.
