Airport officials to choose between two airlines

HATTIESBURG — Within the next month, the Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport is expected to make a decision on a replacement carrier to take over for Delta Air Lines.
Hattiesburg-Laurel director Thomas Heanue said yesterday the airport is considering bids submitted to the United States Department of Transportation by Silver Airways and Air Choice One Airlines.
Heanue tells the Hattiesburg American the airport will analyze both bids “fully,” but at first glance, favored Silver Airways, which was offering non-stop service to Atlanta on a 34-seat SAAB-340.
Heanue said the airport had until May 10 to make a decision.
Delta notified the United States Department of Transportation on July15 that it intended to drop 24 routes in smaller markets across the nation.
