Converting soft coal into natural gas in order to burn it to produce electricity is a non-starter. I'm surprised the process is this far along. First of all, as stated in the above article, natural gas prices are low. Secondly, Mississippi has a surplus of electricity. Thirdly, the prospect of using carbon dioxide by-product to "frack" all of South Mississippi sounds like a terror plot. Let's hear more about renewals and energy efficiency. More conversation is also needed about the environmental damage that will likely be visited upon Okatibee Reservoir and the Leaf River system and its tributaries, as well as ground water supplies in Clarke County southward. Kill this plant. It's a real boondoggle.
