Yates has done a ton of shoddy work in NW Florida. I hope none of those high-rises sustain a direct hit from Isaac or any other storm.

Yates is not rated one of the top construction co. In the Nation for nothing people! To say they aren’t surprised by their shoddy work is a straight ignorant comment by David Newell,and then he goes on to say that he made the prediction they wouldn’t be competent enough to do the job made him look like a complete fool. This isn’t Yates’ first rodeo David.

That tells me all I need to know. A disgruntled union boss slams the corporation and the work because they didn’t get the job. Come on MBJ. Is this really news or just a hit piece? I think that, in your haste to jump on the “Bash Mississippi Power” bandwagon, you have published a politically motivated article better suited for the Clarion Ledger or even the Jackson Free Press. I thought the MBJ was better than that. Tisk! Tisk!

MBJ ought to be ashamed to have printed this “reporting” without any further explanation. Newell is head of a Union. Yates and KBR are merit shop employers. Newell is claiming ‘shoddy work’ because it wasn’t done by union members, and his “council” isn’t skimming part of their pay in the form of dues.

No argument, Newell is entitled to his one-sided viewpoint. But to headline an article and have the opening six or so paragraphs claiming that there is “shoddy work” at the site based only on a union leader that can’t control the site is preposterous – especially for a “Business Journal”.

Did MBJ ask Southern Company/MPC if the work was shoddy prior to publishing this article? It appears they accepted the union’s statement as fact. No wonder this publication has fallen as far and as fast as it has over the past few years. Guess I can attribute that to “shoddy reporting”.
