City, county to operate career training center

OLIVE BRANCH — The DeSoto County school system’s new Career Technology Center in Olive Branch will be maintained with a big helping hand from the city of Olive Branch and DeSoto County.
The Commercial Appeal reports the board unanimously approved an interlocal agreement with Olive Branch and the county to pay maintenance costs for the center.
Under the agreement, each government will pay $50,000 a year for each of the next three years — $300,000 total — for maintenance of the center, which provides a career technology curriculum for students interested in a vo-tech type education on the eastern side of the county.
The school system has operated such a center at Southaven High School for years. The Olive Branch counterpart opened this year in a once-vacant warehouse.
