State lawmaker decides to run for mayor

MOSS POINT ­ — State Rep. Billy Broomfield says he will run for mayor of Moss Point.

Broomfield, a Democrat from Moss Point, has been in the Legislature since 1991. He retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding in 2009. He was a project manager.

If elected mayor, the 68-year-old Broomfield says he will focus on jobs, education, economic growth and efficiency of city services.

The deadline for candidates to qualify for city elections is March 8.

Party primaries are May 7 with any runoffs on May 21. The general election is June 4.
