Supervisors want list of county’s 10 worst roads

COLUMBUS — Lowndes County supervisors have formed a committee to look for the county’s 10 worst roads.
The group will report back to the board by June 15 so supervisors can decide how to repair some or all the roads.
The Commercial Dispatch reports committee members include road manager Ronnie Burns, County Administrator Ralph Billingsley, county engineer Bob Calvert and the road managers for each of the five districts.
The county allocates $1.6 million for roads each year. The money is spread among five districts and is used to maintain the road department and the day-to-day wear and tear on the roads such as patching potholes.
The board of supervisors will consider allocating the paving money in the fiscal year 2014 budget.
