Aldermen want to land debris contractor before storm hits

MOSS POINT — The Board of Aldermen has approved a request to advertise for debris pickup in case of a storm.

Alderman-at-large Houston Cunningham said the city wants to have a plan in place for debris removal in case a hurricane makes landfall this season, rather than trying to find a contractor after the storm.

In 2012, after Hurricane Isaac, many areas of Moss Point flooded, requiring many residents to gut their homes.

The resulting debris was left on the roadside. Because of the unprecedented damage, the city was not able to get a contractor to immediately remove the debris.

Cunningham tells The Sun Herald the new plan will mean a contractor will be ready to clean up in the event of a storm.
