Health Department identifies three more West Nile cases

FORREST COUNTY and HINDS COUNTY — The Mississippi State Department of Health says there are three new human cases of West Nile virus for 2013.

The reported cases are two in Hinds County and one in Forrest County, bringing the state total for 2013 to 15 cases, with one death.

So far this year, cases have been reported in Bolivar, Forrest, Hinds, Lamar, Leflore, Lincoln, Lowndes, Madison, Marion, Rankin and Wayne counties. The Health Department only reports laboratory-confirmed cases to the public.

In 2012, Mississippi had 247 WNV cases and five deaths.
