Aldermen to go public with intent to raise taxes

HORN LAKE — Horn Lake aldermen voted yesterday to advertise their intent to raise property taxes in the budget for the coming fiscal year.

The Commercial Appeal reports the aldermen and Mayor Allen Latimer say the proposed 4-mill increase is still a work in progress.

They say discussions continue on possible ways to cut the increase or eliminate it in the budget that begins Oct. 1.

But, Latimer says, the city needs a proposal to meet a deadline for advertising a Sept. 3 public hearing.

If ultimately approved, the 4-mill increase would raise the city’s millage rate from 42 to 46 mills.
