Gaming Commission gives nod to Coast city’s first casino

Casino_rouletter_wheel-RGBD’IBERVILLE — The Mississippi Gaming Commission started the Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort on a path that could have D’Iberville’s first casino open by mid-2015.

Jay McDaniel, deputy director of the commission, tells The Sun Herald that construction on the casino is expected to begin early next year on the Back Bay east of Interstate 110.

Gaming Commission chairman John Hairston said the amenities and the fact the project has financial backing helped sell the commission on the project.

Some of those amenities include a 300-room hotel, a 472-seat event center, and a 42,000-square-foot, 36-hole miniature golf course.
