LONDON – Ridgeland-based Butler Snow has been selected as a finalist for the 2014-2015 Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) International Legal Team of the Year. The firm has been nominated the past two years for North American Team of the Year.
The winner will be announced at the STEP Private Client Awards on Sept. 17 at the Hilton Park Lane Hotel in London.
“We are honored that our team has been selected as a STEP finalist,” Donald Clark, Jr., chairman of Butler Snow, said in a news release. “Our selection to this distinguished list is a testament not only to the expertise of our thriving tax and estate practice, but to the complex work and dedication to client service exhibited by all our attorneys firmwide.”
Butler Snow’s international tax practice delivers tax and estate planning advice for clients who reside outside of the U.S., but who have U.S. immigration status, U.S. family members, or U.S. investments. Additionally, Butler Snow’s international tax practice assists non-U.S. and U.S.-based businesses in tax-efficient structuring of their cross-border business operations. The STEP Private Client Awards highlight excellence among private client solicitors/attorneys, accountants, barristers, bankers, trust managers and financial advisers. Judges select up to five nominees as finalists in each category. A panel of experts comprised of internationally recognized lawyers, accountants, barristers and trust companies also take part in the selection process. Awards criteria include: demonstration of excellent, relationship driven client service; excellent leadership including a clear vision on how the firm has and should differentiate itself in the market; demonstration of technological innovation; and demonstration of a wider social responsibility, including a high standard of treatment of the firm’s staff.
STEP is the worldwide professional association for practitioners dealing with family inheritance and succession planning. STEP helps improve public understanding of the issues families face in this area and promotes education and high professional standards among its members. STEP has more than 19,000 members across 80 jurisdictions from a broad range of professional backgrounds, including lawyers, accountants, trust specialists and other practitioners in this area.
