HATTIESBURG — While the recession has negatively affected most airports, officials at the Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport report an increase in traffic.
Not only is the airport still seeing increases in its annual boardings, it’s also home to more than 60 private aircraft — the most ever, according to officials.

DALLAS — Federal regulators are proposing more maintenance-related penalties against American Airlines.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it would fine American $787,500 for three cases of alleged maintenance problems.
In one case, regulators say the airline operated a plane without replacing a central computer on the jet. The FAA says mechanics improperly put off the maintenance.

The number of scheduled domestic and international passengers on U.S. airlines in Dec. 2009 decreased by 0.6 percent from Dec. 2008, decreasing by 0.4 million to 57 million, the Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported.
The Dec. 2009 passenger total was 6.2 percent below that of Dec. 2007.

TUPELO — The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has directed Mesaba Airlines to continue air service in Tupelo through at least April 14, or until replacement service begins.
