Forger-turned-secretary returns to forgery, gets 10 years

BATESVILLE — A 40-year-old Sardis woman has received a 10-year prison sentence after a Panola County Circuit Court jury convicted her of forging a court document. The Commercial Appeal reports Samantha Johnson was convicted after fewer than 15 minutes of deliberation. NEW AUGUSTA — Emily Holder, former city clerk for the town of New Augusta, has pleaded guilty to embezzlement and two counts of forgery. The State Auditor’s Office says the 44-year-old Holder was charged with embezzling over $53,000 from the city by writing checks to herself and forging the mayor’s signature.
