Popularized by Chinese leader Mao Tsetung as a way to encourage community fitness and national pride, table tennis (or “ping-pong”) has grown in worldwide popularity since it was first introduced.

Mississippi College’s acclaimed table tennis team first started in 2007 and has since been turning the tables on a number of big name rivals from Ohio State University to University of Toronto.

MC graduate student Ken Qiu coaches the team, which is mostly composed of a number of Qiu’s fellow Chinese international students. The team, which also includes one American, recently enjoyed victories over Florida State University and the University of Texas and have earned a visit to the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association championship April 13-15.

MBJ video journalist Stephen McDill recently visited one of their practice sessions.
