With less than three weeks until tee off, Mississippi’s only PGA TOUR event, True South Classic, has set its initial player commitment list for the July 16-22 tournament at Madison’s Annandale Golf Club.
Former TOUR winners Stuart Appleby, Jason Bohn, D.A. Points and Rocco Mediate are already committed to play for the $3 million purse.
Defending champion Chris Kirk will be seeking his second victory in Mississippi. Others vying for the title include Charley Hoffman; Roland Thatcher; Lee Janzen and former champions Heath Slocum and Cameron Beckman. Hoffman and Thatcher are coming off a T2 finish last week.
Appleby is making his first trip to Mississippi since 1996 at the Deposit Guaranty Classic. Since then, Appleby has had several PGA TOUR victories including his most recent 2010 win at the Greenbrier Classic.
The True South Classic will also bring fan favorites BooWeekley, Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey, Jason Gore and Chris DiMarco to Annandale Golf Club.
“Things are shaping up really well for a great week in Mississippi,” said John Marovich, tournament director.
The tournament will be broadcast live for 16 hours by the Golf Channel with charitable proceeds benefiting Friends of Children’s Hospital. The event is expected to have an economic impact on central Mississippi exceeding $21 million.
Tickets are priced at just $20 each and they can be used any day of the tournament. Children age 15 and under will be admitted free of charge when accompanied by a ticketed adult. Fans can order tickets online at www.truesouthclassic.com or call the tournament office at (601) 898-4653.
The True South Classic is one of 45 official events on the PGA TOUR for 2012.
