PSC commissioner announces Entergy rate decrease

July 19, 2012

Central District Public Service Commissioner Lynn Posey has announced continued rate decreases for ratepayers of Entergy Mississippi.

From an issued press release.

Entergy Mississippi customers with a typical 1,000 kWh use should see a decrease of about $3.37 a month for the remainder of 2012.

“Rate decreases and cost savings from Entergy Mississippi could not have come at a better time,” said Commissioner Lynn Posey. “Mississippians face higher gas prices at the gas pump, very challenging economic times and high unemployment. Ratepayers are seeing decreases because of the work of both the Public Service Commission and Entergy Mississippi. The MS Public Service Commission is committed to ensuring all Mississippians receive reliable and affordable energy,” Posey said.

Entergy Mississippi has seen a dramatic decrease in their rates over the past 5 years. In 2008, 1,000 kilowatt hours (an average monthly household usage) cost $130 a month. Today, that same usage would cost $90, an average household decrease of $40.

“The Public Service Commission serves as a watchdog for ratepayers,” said Posey. “I take my job as Commissioner very seriously and am proud to serve the hard-working ratepayers across the Central District.”
