C Spire CEO added to Top 25 wireless list

November 13, 2012

The website Fierce Wireless has named C Spire Wireless president and CEO Hu Meena one of the wireless industry’s top 25 most powerful people in the U.S.

Its the Clarksdale native’s second year to be named to the wireless trade publication’s list, and his name has moved up four spots to No. 16 on the 2012 list.

Other notables on the list include Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and Federal Communications Commission chief Julius Genachowski.

Meena has been notably outspoken on issues from data roaming and LTE to  the so-called “wireless duopoly” that he says exists between national rivals Verizon Wireless and AT&T. As a leading voice for the Rural Carriers Association, Meena led the opposition to AT&T’s proposed mega-merger with T-Mobile in 2011.

Also in 2011, Meena oversaw C Spire’s corporate re-branding efforts including a name change from the old Cellular South and a landmark deal with Apple to carry its newest iPhone line. The company recently announced its completion of 4G LTE wireless connectivity in the Metro Jackson market.
