The search committee assigned to find a new president for the University of Southern Mississippi met Wednesday in Jackson and will meet again Thursday to assess candidates for the job.
The search committee, officially known as the State Institutions of Higher Learning’s Board Search Committee, convened at 10 Wednesday morning and will return at noon Thursday. The public is free to attend the Thursday meeting in the IHL Board Room l in the Universities Center, 3825 Ridgewood Road, Jackson. The committee may decide to go into a closed executive e session at some point during the meeting, however.
The search committee meeting will be preceded in the board room by an 8 a.m. regular meeting Thursday of the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning. The Mississippi Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning governs the public universities in Mississippi.
The presidential search committee accepted applications and nominations for the USM president’s position through mid December. USM has been without a president since the resignation of Martha Saunders on June 30 to join the faculty at the Gulf Coast campus.
According to media reports, preferred candidates are to visit the USM campus in Hattiesburg in February.
