Jackson resident Papa Peachez made it through a successful audition Wednesday night and secured a spot on Season 12 of Fox’s “American Idol.”

Self-described as “a big black woman trapped in a little boy’s body,” Peachez said he enjoys dancing and working with Jackson’s homeless population.

While Idol judge Keith Urban found Peachez to be too theatrical, the young Jacksonian was easily accepted by judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. Longtime Idol judge Randy Jackson cast the deciding vote to give the soulful singer a shot at Hollywood.

Last week, Greenville native Courtney Williams won a spot on this show. Brandon native Skylar Laine made it to the show’s top ten on Season 11 and toured the country with the other finalists.

Here’s how the Papa Peachez audition went.
