The Fighting Okra of Delta State University has done it again.

The burly unofficial DSU mascot won high praise last year for starring in its own “Fear the Okra” promotional web video series produced by Ridgeland advertising agency Mad Genius.

Recently profiled in the Mississippi Business Journal, the Fighting Okra’s makeover story has also been retold by NCAA.com.

“When you think of okra you don’t necessarily think aggressive,” said DSU dean of student Wayne Blansett.  “We took a vegetable and made it aggressive.”

“(DSU) came to us and said we wanna do something that will get attention and expresses us in a unique way,” Mad Genius exec Rick Moore said. “They don’t have the media budget of Mississippi State or Ole Miss. They fight for every dollar.”

Mad Genius won six gold Addy awards last week for the campaign as well as best overall in digital and best in show.
