The Mississippi Economic Council’s 64th Annual Meeting will be held Thursday at the Jackson Convention Complex. This year’s event, “MEC’s Mississippi Military Salute,” will honor all Mississippians who have served in the military.

The day will be capped off with the Annual Meeting luncheon at 11:45 a.m. The luncheon will include a special presentation from Gov. Phil Bryant and the keynote wil be by Maj. Gen. Augustus L. Collins, Adjutant General. Special entertainment will be provided by USO Liberty Bells. The USO Liberty Bells are a talented troupe of professional men and women with extensive credits singing, dancing, and performing across the country and around the world. They have been featured in many venues, including Broadway, and are proud to entertain members of our armed forces, their families, and veterans. Liberty Bells-USO of Metropolitan New York is the only official chartered USO show troupe.

The day will get under way with registration at 8:30 a.m. There will be two morning sessions, from 9:15-10:15 a.m. and from 10:30-11:30 a.m. The luncheon will end promptly at 1 p.m.

The first morning session will focus on “The Automotive Industry in Mississippi and How It Relates to Southeastern US-Japan Summit.” The session will feature Dan Bednarzyk, Vice President of Manufacturing Nissan North America, Inc. – Canton; Doug Formby, Vice President of Administration and Secretary of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi, Inc.; and William Yates III, President and CEO of W.G. Yates & Sons Construction Company.

The second morning session will focus on “Military Contracting in Mississippi: An Economic Development Driver.” This session will feature Brent Christensen, Executive Director of the Mississippi Development Authority: Irwin F. Edenzon, President of Ingalls Shipbuilding and Corporate Vice President of Huntington Ingalls Industries; and Dr. Jeffery P. Holland, Director of US Army Engineer Research and Development Center and Director of Research and Development for the US Army Corps of Engineers.

There will be a special recognition of MEC’s STAR Students and Teachers and MEC’s Mississippi Scholars communities.

Mississippi’s top high school students will be honored at the Education Celebration as part of the morning activities. The Student Teacher Award Recognition program salutes students and teachers from more than 260 high schools throughout Mississippi, with the top STAR students receiving scholarships from the Kelly Gene Cook, Sr. Charitable Foundation, Inc.
