The cancellation came after national publicity of the event, and pressure applied by both Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball.

Winners of the raffle would have received certificates from a Huntsville gun store to get their guns. The guns were a Ruger American with scope, a Ruger 22-45 MKIII and a Ruger 10-22-tD

The struggling Huntsville franchise is one of the teams considered as candidate to move to Biloxi when details of that deal are finalized. The Stars are ninth in average attendance in the 10-team Southern League, averaging about 2,000 per game.
