How much will a minor league baseball stadium mean to the Biloxi economy?

According to consultant Charles Johnson IV of Johnson Consulting in Chicago, Biloxi’s downtown stadium site rates a “9 or 10″ on a 10-point scale.

Comparing it other Southern League stadiums, he said the potential attendance is “far and away the leader from a tourism perspective,” according to the Sun-Herald in Biloxi.  He said Biloxi’s site is better than Tulsa’s or Pensacola’s current stadiums.

At question is whether Biloxi should sell $21 million in general obligation bonds to finance the $34 million stadium on land across from the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino. If approved, a team must be secured for play — mostly likely in the 2015 season.
