Dennery writes new chapter in eclectic career

Business

restaurant-clip-art-3When the iconic downtown Jackson restaurant Dennery’s closed several years ago, most patrons thought they might not see the dishes again, but expected to see the chef. However, many wouldn’t have guessed the post-restaurant career of John Dennery.

Dennery has just been named CEO of Mississippi Prison Industries Corp., replacing long-time chief executive John Miller

This is after Dennery, a lobbyist who also ran Dennery’s restaurant for some three decades, dabbled in politics by running for Hinds County supervisor.

According to the Clarion-Ledger, Dennery working to provide opportunities to inmates is not new to him. At Dennery’s, he worked with the Mississippi Department of Corrections’ Restitution Center in offering employment opportunities to offenders prior to their release.

Gregarious with a seemingly permanent smile, everybody expected Dennery to continue on after Dennery’s — we just didn’t expect the zany path.
