There’s no chicken-or-egg issue in Horn Lake when it comes to hiring a consultant to help attract more retailers.

City officials are near a deal with Birmingham, Ala.-based Retail Strategies, according to The Commercial Appeal, but will hold out until the results of next week’s referendum on a proposed lodging tax.

Voters will decide Tuesday whether the Northwest Mississippi city just south of Memphis will enact a $2 per night tax on all hotels and motels.

Horn Lake plans to place the increased tax revenue in the Economic Development Fund, which will be used to pay the consultant.
