Add Mississippi to former Alaska half-term governor and Tea Party celeb Sarah Palin’s dance card, USA Today says.

palin caracutureIn a story Thursday, the national newspaper reported that after campaigning in the failed U.S. Senate effort of Tea Party Republican Steve Lonegan, the 2008 GOP veep candidate vowed to push on to campaign for Tea Party U.S. Senate hopefuls in Mississippi, Kentucky, Tennessee and South Carolina.

She’s not after the scalps of Democrats.

The darling of the Tea Party wants to do a 2014 takedown of the likes of venerable Republican Sen. Thad Cochran, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, two-term Senate member Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and John McCain sidekick Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina. All have drawn hard-right challengers from within their own party.

What Palin’s GOP senatorial targets have in common is a vote this week to avoid a full-scale default on the national debt. That’s the sort of moderation the former politician and sometimes Fox News personality is on a crusade to rid the country of.

Before leaving New Jersey upon the demise of Lonegan’s candidacy, Palin proclaimed: “We’re going to shake things up in 2014. Rest well tonight, for soon we must focus on important House and Senate races. Let’s start with Kentucky — which happens to be awfully close to South Carolina, Tennessee and Mississippi — from sea to shining sea we will not give up. We’ve only just begun to fight.”

In Mississippi, she’ll be sprinkling her political fairy dust on state Sen. Chris McDaniel — who is allied with Tea Party conservatives.’

McDaniel should hope the fairy stuff she’s bringing works better for him than it did for Lonegan.

Regardless of people’s personal views on Governor Palin, she is a player on the national scene and I like to see Mississippi get national attention for reasons other than foolish mistakes.

  2. ABratt Tupelo Liberal Says:

Palin is loved in Tupelo. She visited our Tea Party /AFA’ Dark Side City during the presidential campaign. Nice crowd gathered to greet her. Now she’s back in Mississippi taking on Sen. Cochran. LOL! Republicans (Cochran) deserve all the foul-mouthed politics she is capable of dishing out. It’s Conservatism at its finest. Hope you folks get what you deserve and enjoy every minute of it!

  3. James Carr Says:

I am with Sara. If these Senators and Representatives voted for this socalled compromise, they should be voted out of office.

  4. horace Says:

Those who voted against default of the United States should be commended for putting the country before a fanatical ideology, The national idiot should make it easy to vote in the primaries. Whoever she endorses, just vote for the other guy.

That “Palin is a player on the National scene” cannot be denied. However, her negative political rhetoric is radical, Teaparty, propaganda unfit for consumption by truly concerned Mississippians of ALL stripes!
