Three committee meetings, farm policy and agricultural addresses by two key players from the Obama Administration and Capitol Hill, and an entertaining featured speech after lunch punctuate the Delta Council Mid-Year Board of Directors Meeting on Nov. 13 at the Charles W. Capps Entrepreneurial Center in Stoneville from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Farm Policy Committee (B.F. Smith Auditorium), the Transportation Committee (Capps Room B), and a joint meeting of the Education/Health Policy and Development Department (Capps Room A) will meet concurrently beginning at 9 a.m. Following those committee meetings, a General Session convenes, highlighted by keynote speaker Karis Gutter, Deputy Undersecretary of Agriculture, followed by lunch and closing remarks by renowned Pulitzer finalist, cartoonist and humorist Marshall Ramsey.

“We have an incredible agenda, with some of the most respected names in Mississippi policy,” said Gibb Steele of Greenville, who serves as president of Delta Council. “In agriculture, to have Karis Gutter keynote at the Mid-Year meeting and Senate Agriculture Committee staffer Ben Mosely to be featured at the Farm Policy Committee, is a strong lineup as we enter what might finally be the homestretch for a Farm Bill. The Education Committee boasts names like IHL Commissioner Hank Bounds and Deputy State Superintendent Dr. Laura Jones. The Transportation Committee features Commissioner Dick Hall, Gov. Phil Bryant aide Chris Champion, and Senate Highways Chairman Willie Simmons, among others.”

Steele directed people to go the Delta Council website — www.deltacouncil.org — for complete agendas on the morning’s activities.
